Rural Wireless Highspeed Internet
Elementary Computers, in partnership with CICI Internet Cooperative Inc. is in the process of developing a wireless network to serve
the residents of Miami and the surrounding area with highspeed
internet service. Currently subscribers in Miami enjoy 24/7 access
to a T1 network.
A high power access point is being installed west of Miami, which
will allow customers within a radius of 7 to 10 miles to access highspeed
service. We have plans to extend the reach of the network to customers
in the Roseisle/Graysville area, as well as to points east of Miami.
This service is being offered to customers of CICI. Persons not
currently members of CICI will have to sign up with CICI ( 204-435-2363)
to gain access to this network, and will have to pay the relevant
charges to become a member.
Package Cost
The basic equipment needed for the customer wireless installation
is:
Ethernet adapter ( normally already equipped with computer)
Router ( needed for protection from computers outside the network)
Client radio ( depending on distance from access point, one of
2 models in use. Customers outside Miami's limits will require
the higher power radio in most cases)
Antenna ( again, one of 2 models in use currently, depending on
distance from access point)
Cabling
The cost of the package will range from $175 at the low end of
requirements to roughly $350 at the higher end ( prices of equipment
may vary at times due to fluctuations). All equipment will become
the property of the customer and they will be responsible for replacements
due to failure.
Monthly access fees are $45/month, payable to Elementary Computers.
